Happy New Year Triad ASSE members! Well here we are in 2012 and it seems 2011 came and went quickly. While making your New Year’s Resolutions, I hope you have made your professional development an area of concentration this year. If you have, there are plenty of opportunities to do so. You can attend a chapter meeting; get involved with the Society, either our local chapter or national level. There is the ASSE National “Safety 2012” PDC in Denver taking place on June 3rd -6th and registration for it is now open, so you can start planning ahead. It is not too early to think about our Region 6 PDC in Myrtle Beach on September 18th-20th. I have attended this conference the past 5 years and it seems to get better each year.
The chapter has several meetings lined up for you to attend. On January 17th, we will be having a FREE dinner meeting at NC A&T University starting @ 6pm in Smith Hall, room 2014. The students from our student chapter will be doing presentations on their projects. This is a great opportunity to see what our future safety professionals are doing. So please come out and support Dr. Shah and the students. On February 21st, we will have a presentation from the National Weather Service on Preparing for Severe Weather at Logan Roadhouse in Greensboro; mark your calendars to attend one of these events. As we continue to work on our meeting schedule for the rest of the year; please contact me or Holly Johnson if you have a particular area of interest that you would like addressed at a chapter meeting. I can be contacted at vjohnson@lortobco.com and Holly can be reached at holly.johnson@greensboro-nc.gov.
Happy New Year,
Van Johnson
President
